TikTok download not working? 7 common problems and fixes
Most failed TikTok downloads come down to a handful of fixable causes. Work through this list from top to bottom and one of them will almost always solve it.
1. The post is private or restricted
TikVid can only reach videos that are publicly visible. If the account is private, the video was deleted, or it is age-restricted, there is nothing to fetch. Open the link in a private browser window: if you cannot see the video without logging in, neither can the downloader.
2. You copied the wrong link
Copy the link from the Share → Copy link button, not from your browser's address bar while scrolling a feed. A correct TikTok link contains the video ID. Profile links or search-result links will not work because they do not point to a single video.
3. The link is incomplete or has extra text
Pasting sometimes adds spaces, line breaks, or surrounding text. Make sure the box contains only the URL, starting with https:// and nothing after it. Re-copy the link if you are unsure.
4. The video is brand new
A video posted seconds ago may not be fully available yet on TikTok's side. Wait a minute or two and try again.
5. Your network or VPN is interfering
Some corporate networks, public Wi-Fi, or aggressive VPNs block the requests needed to process the video. Switch to mobile data or a different connection and retry.
6. The download starts but the file is empty
This usually means a browser extension (an ad blocker or a privacy shield) cancelled the request mid-way. Disable shields for this site, or try a different browser, and start the download again.
7. HD takes longer than the normal file
This is expected, not an error. The normal MP4 is prepared the moment your link is processed, so it downloads instantly. HD and MP3 are built when you request them, which adds a few seconds. If you only need a quick share, the normal MP4 is the fastest option.
